Rockwood Park's Paved Trails Are a Part of the Beautiful Northern Delaware Greenway Trail and the National Recreation Trail System
10 miles of the National Recreation Trail System runs through seven unique county and state parks in northeast New Castle County from the Brandywine Creek to the Delaware River connecting you to scenic byways in Delaware and beyond.
This is known as the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail (NDGT). This spectacular trail encompasses over 1,200 acres of preserved natural lands in the county’s Brandywine Hundred, with over 29 miles of interconnected trails and includes an amazing range of amenities for local residents and visitors to the region.

Highlights of the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail and park resources:
- The 10-mile, paved NDGT connects to 19 miles of trails within seven parks. (The NDGT is also part of the “East Coast Greenway” that passes through Delaware.)
- Many recreation resources, including: an exercise track on a former horse race course; the Brandywine Zoo; a public golf course and tennis courts; sports fields; playgrounds; quiet natural areas; and even an ice skating rink.
- Wayside interpretive kiosks at rest areas along the trail providing historic and cultural information.
- Over 1,200 acres of protected green space with picnic areas, pavilions, and many other amenities throughout the 29-mile, inter-connected trail network.
- Rockwood Museum & Park and Bringhurst Woods, located at the center of the NDGT, welcome walkers, hikers, bikers and others who wish to visit their lush properties.
