Inspection Protocol during COVID-19 Response Effective Immediately
Land Use staff responsible for conducting field inspections, such as building, site and property maintenance, shall adhere to the following guidelines for their and the public’s safety while conducting essential business. These guidelines are in place to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus by limiting public interaction and practicing social distancing.
Facemasks have been provided to all field staff and shall always be worn when public interaction occurs. Additionally, staff must always maintain a social distance of at least six (6) feet, unless physical restrictions prevent this from occurring.
Please note the following information as it relates to Building Inspections:
- With the occupant’s permission, in person inspections in occupied homes are permissible provided facemasks are always worn by everyone involved and social distancing of at least six (6) feet is observed. Alternatively, in the event the occupant would prefer staff not enter their home, inspections can be completed by photograph or through our Virtual Inspection Process (VIP) using smartphone technology such as Skype or Facetime.
- Inspections of unoccupied structures or elements are still occurring but staff are encouraged to complete through our VIP. When a physical inspection is necessary they are to be performed unassisted. Staff must also practice social distancing and wearing facemasks as referenced above.

Scheduling an Inspection
Individuals who have become familiar with our online inspection schedule website have realized the benefits of this system, and the added features to keep you, the permit holder, apprised of permit requirements and inspection history.
One noticeable feature is the email notification that occurs the day of your scheduled inspection at 7:00 am. For the past year this notification along with a phone call from your Inspector have been a standard occurrence. However, starting April 26, 2021, the email notification will serve as our primary notification. You’ll no longer receive a phone call unless the Inspector has questions regarding your specific inspection request.
Please know that this email notification will continue to contain helpful information, including the estimated time of your inspection, identify of your assigned Inspector, and also provide links to view permit/parcel information and to pay fees.

However, from time to time an occasion will arise where we need input from the International Code Council (ICC) regarding a specific code section.
