Mission, Vision & Philosophy

Mission Statement

The members of the New Castle County Police are dedicated to making our communities safer through the professional delivery of police services while actively engaging in innovative problem solving and cooperative partnerships.

Our Vision

The New Castle County Police, for the purpose of enhancing the safety and quality of life for our residents, shall continue to foster a culture of professional delivery of responsive, efficient police services through innovative problem solving, effective communications, technology, and cooperative partnerships.

Philosophy

To accomplish our mission, there must be a joint effort of cooperation and understanding between the police and the citizens of New Castle County. These joint efforts and partnerships create a strong foundation of trust and cooperation which are the roots of community policing.

Every effort must be made to protect the partnership. Each member will strive to ensure that all citizens view the New Castle County Police as an essential part of the community and not an organization outside or estranged from it.

A cooperative and collaborative relationship with the community stems from the belief that we share a common goal of creating and maintaining safer communities. In addition to our partnerships with the communities, we will continue to build on our federal, state, and local alliances within the criminal justice family.

A citizen's perception of the police department is largely impacted, if not completely determined, by the attitudes, appearance, and performance of our officers. Our employees are our greatest resource, and we must therefore strive to develop our department personnel to their fullest potential with an emphasis on professionalism and accountability.

Therefore, the fundamental philosophy of the New Castle County Police is to foster and build upon a problem-solving police culture with the goal of improving the quality of life for the citizens of New Castle County through professionalism, efficiency, outreach, and prevention.
