You will be working from a slab of clay, adding layers of colored clay slips, pastels, textures, and imagery. From this the monoprints will be pulled. Even if you’ve never worked with clay or know nothing about printmaking, you’ll be excited to learn how to pull your very own clay monoprints. All levels welcome. Additional $30 material fee. The tour guide will give information about the biography of Rockwood’s first owner, Joseph Shipley, and the history of British and American architecture at this time to create a context for this preserved rural oasis. Highlights will include one of the oldest attached conservatories in America, Rockwood’s Heritage Garden of 19th-century trees, and one of the best-preserved ha-ha walls outside of Great Britain.     Take a rare walk back in time to learn how the existing and lost structures of Rockwood completed a working estate of food production, animal husbandry, household utilities, transportation, and other 19th-century challenges. Your guide will be dressed in vintage clothing and will use vintage photographs to provide you with the history of Rockwood as you walk from structure to structure. Tour is approximately 90 minutes in length and covers approximately 1 mile to include surfaces of grass, gravel, and paved areas. Ages 14+. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Dogs have always been present in Rockwood and have made some of the estate’s most memorable inhabitants. The whole park is open and the events will include scavenger hunts for kids and families, descriptions of Rockwood’s “best friends” as well as hand-made dog toy workshops. Cash bar-bring a snack!
