“Today’s announcement is good news for the State of Delaware and for New Castle County,” New Castle County Executive Thomas P. Gordon said Friday afternoon.
He joined Gov. Jack Markell, Delaware’s Congressional delegation and others praising the job-saving decision announced Friday that two of the three companies expected to be formed by the merger of the Dow and DuPont companies will be headquartered in Delaware, with incentives from the state and county.
New Castle County Council members will be given a full briefing about assistance the county expects to provide, Gordon said, then he will make a more detailed public statement shortly thereafter.
“Many of the residents of the county are employed by the company and I hope that this decision brings a bit of certainty to some of the families who have been unsure what the future looked like,” Gordon said.
Gordon, working closely with Markell since the companies announced their merger intention, added, “I have been incredibly impressed with the governor’s efforts in this.
“He has incredible knowledge, a solid plan and an outstanding team,” Gordon said. “He was able to turn what was expected to be a total loss of these corporations into a new future for Delaware.
“I am extremely proud to be included in the governor’s turnaround of what could have been a disaster.”
