[ARCHIVED] Register of Wills launches Senior Citizens’ Bill of Rights initiative

New Castle County Register of Wills Ciro Poppiti this week launched a Senior Citizens’ Bill of Rights initiative, building on his establishment last month of a policy think-tank to focus on older residents and their issues.
“The Senior Citizens Bill of Rights is an evolving document,” Poppiti said, noting the all-volunteer think-tank -- operating at no cost to taxpayers -- is tasked with developing the document, to be finalized this summer.
Noting the initiative builds on 2016 as the Year of the Senior Citizen, Poppiti encouraged residents to send suggestions and comments to [email protected] or Louis Redding City/County Building, Second Floor, 800 N. French St. Wilmington, DE 19801.
Of core principles guiding the document development, he said, the first acknowledges seniors as “an invaluable resource of talent, knowledge, experience and wisdom.” Others are that they “shall be treated with dignity and respect, because seniors are an asset for our society” and “government shall proactively protect older Delawareans and their caregivers in an open, accessible and accountable manner.”
