[ARCHIVED] Jeffrey Miller promoted to Chief of Emergency Communications

Jeffrey Miller was recently promoted to Chief of Emergency Communications for the New Castle County Department of Public Safety. A formal ceremony was held Friday at the Paul J. Sweeney Public Safety Building, with County Executive Tom Gordon and Joe Bryant, Jr., Director of Public Safety, residing.

Miller was formally an Assistant Chief and had been serving
as Acting Chief of Emergency Communications for nine months.

Director Bryant said Miller beat out a pool of applicants from the Mid-Atlantic region to obtain his promotion.

“Jeff competed with other managers of communications centers from as far as Washington, D.C.; and, at the end of the day, he was head and shoulders above all of them,” he said. “He’s that well versed.”

Also promoted at the ceremony were Jay R. Richwine to Quality Assurance Coordinator and Christopher J. Williams to Fire Medical Communications Supervisor. County Executive Gordon congratulated all three men on their promotions.

“Joe Bryant is building a great team,” County Executive Gordon said. “I’m looking forward to moving this County forward. I have been very fortunate that with the team we put together here.”

“All those promoted are important, but the Chief’s position was a very important move because we’re talking about the person who oversees our 911 call center. The comments I received from everybody involved in Public Safety, the community, and fire service was favorable.”

During a brief speech, Miller said he was humbled at this new opportunity. He thanked County Executive Gordon, CAO David Grimaldi, Deputy CAO Jim McDonald, and Director Bryant for having the faith to appoint him Acting Chief when former Emergency Communications Chief David J. Roberts retired. He also thanked his colleagues and command staff for the help they had provided him.

“I could not have made it here today, especially through the last almost nine months, had it not been for the personnel of our Communications Division,” Miller said. “The 82 full-time and six part-time professionals serve a Division that never sleeps, providing superior customer service 24/7, 365 days a year.”

“My greatest supporters of all – my wife Jennifer, son Christian, and daughter Carson – have stood by my side this entire ride and are the true reason for my success today.”
