Hy-Point Dairy creates ‘Best Sundae on Sunday’

Hy-Point Dairy Farms won first place in the third “Best Sundae on Sunday” competition at the New Castle County Ice Cream Festival at Rockwood Park with its Rockwood Rocko Chocko Taco Sundae.

Six dairies and creators of ice cream treats participated in the June 26 event. The runner up was The Ice Cream Shoppe of Bellefonte, the 2015 winner, with its Krispie Malted Monkey Rockwood Sundae.

New Castle County Executive Thomas P. Gordon presented the Executive’s Bowl to Sherry Hastings of Hy-Point, located on Beaver Valley Road west of Concord Pike in Brandywine Hundred. Barry Schlecker of Barry’s Events, producer of the festival, awarded Hy-Point a free vendor’s space at the 2017 festival.

The winning entry featured spicy jalapeno ice cream with chocolate swirls, hot fudge, Mexican dandies, whipped cream and garnish, served in a homemade taco bowl shell. The sundae created for the festival judging team was presented in a bowl inside a Mexican sombrero.

Judges for the event were: Alisa Morkides, owner of Brew HaHa! Cafes; Brian Ashby, owner of the 8th & Union Kitchen in Wilmington; and Bob Older, founder and president of the Delaware Small Business Chamber of Commerce. They evaluated the entrants for taste, presentation and creativity.

Also participating in the contest were: Sweet Lucy’s, Battiato Farms, Caffe Gelato and Nellie’s Waffles.
