The New Castle County Police Department was recently awarded the prestigious “Gold Standard with Excellence Award” as part of the its re-accreditation process with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
NCC Director of Public Safety, Joseph Bryant Jr., Chief of Police Colonel E.M. Setting, and Accreditation Team member Corporal Jacob Andrews recently traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the accredidations process. After
appearing before CALEA on November 16th, the Commission voted unanimously to award New Castle County Police the “Gold Standard with Excellence Award”.
This is CALEA’s highest award and signifies that the division obtained full compliance in 100% of all categories. Only 1 percent of all law enforcement agencies in North America are accredited with only 15 percent of those able to achieve CALEA’s “Gold Standard with Excellence Award”.
Colonel E.M. Setting congratulated the men and women of the New Castle County Police that worked so hard to attain this honor which ensures and demonstrates that the division maintains the highest standards of excellence and best business practices in law enforcement. Colonel Setting gave a special thank you to the Accreditation Team for their sacrifices during this extensive process. Their efforts
positioned the division to succeed in this challenging endeavor.
“Another reason the division was able to set itself apart from the other agencies is because of the everyday actions of each officer and member of Public Safety,” Colonel Setting said. “These individuals remain consummate professionals and continually display what a true law enforcement and public safety professional should be. I again thank our personnel for all their efforts not only during the recent
CALEA inspection process but for what each one of them does for our citizens each and every day.”
The New Castle County Department of Public Safety, Division of Police, took part in an on-site assessment earlier this year, August 11th through August 14th, as part of a program to maintain accreditation by verifying it meets professional policing standards. During that time, Director William
Howe of the St. Louis County Police Department and Commander Gregg Jones of the Lexington, Kentucky Division of Police conducted the assessment phase of our CALEA national re-accreditation inspection.
The accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. Our agency was found to be 100 percent compliant with the CALEA standards.
New Castle County Public Safety Director Joseph Bryant praised the Division of Police for its efforts and ongoing commitment to the citizens of New Castle County. The professionalism and dedication of the members of the New Castle County Division of Police can be seen on a daily basis within the communities we serve.
“The Division of Police has a long tradition of striving for excellence in policing,” Director Bryant said. “The division has shared a positive partnership with CALEA since 1988, our officers dedication to serving the public is the main reason we meet the strict standards set forth, and maintain a positive
working relationship with the citizens of New Castle County.”
Since 1988, the New Castle County Division of Police has been one of the less than 1 percent of all law enforcement agencies in the United States able to achieve the high standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies. CALEA accreditation dictates that we maintain the best practices in law enforcement, ensure our personnel have everything necessary to succeed each day and that we are better positioned to meet the expectations of those we serve.
New Castle County Executive Thomas Gordon said the Excellence Award was simply a strong validation of why the New Castle County Police Department has continued to be a source of pride for the community of northern Delaware.
“Now, we can add to a long list of accolades this prestigious award from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies," the Executive said. "This is an important nod to New Castle County Police’s effectiveness and its reputation as one of the finest police departments in the nation.”
New Castle County Division of Police was re-accredited and announced as the recipient of the “Gold Standard with Excellence Award” at the CALEA agency review on November 16th. The agency will be receiving a certificate and will be recognized on the CALEA Website and in the CALEA Update
magazine.
