[ARCHIVED] New Foals for Mounted Patrol Introduced to Public by County Executive Tom Gordon

PIKE CREEK, Del. – County Executive Tom Gordon formally introduced the two new, Clydesdale foals he recently purchased so that the County could raise and train them for service eventually in the New Castle County Police Mounted Patrol.

County Executive Gordon introduced the foals, Warden and Wrangler, on a sunny Monday afternoon as the two young horses stood with their handlers in the viewing arena at Carousel Park & Equestrian Center. Warden is a 7-month-old brown and white foal, and Wrangler is 6-month-old black and white foal.

“These young foals have already begun their training, but they won’t be ready for real police work until more than two years from now,” County Executive Gordon said. “In the meantime, we’re excited to watch them grow and develop, and I look forward to the day when these two beautiful animals begin long careers as members of the Mounted Patrol.

“They are already so handsome,” he said. “Imagine when they fully develop and are ready to go.”

Among those with the Executive were Deputy CAO Jim McDonald, Public Safety Director Joe Bryant Cooke, Police Chief Colonel E.M. Setting, and Sgt. Mary Devine.

Councilmen George Smiley and Joe Reda were also in attendance.

Colonel Setting thanked the County Executive for the purchase of these two foals, which would help replenish the Mounted Patrol, and for all of the support he has provided to New Castle County Police.
