NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Gordon administration has decided to expand the programming on NCCTV by broadcasting all meetings of the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment beginning in the New Year.
County Executive Tom Gordon and Chief Administration Officer David Grimaldi ordered the addition to New Castle County’s public broadcast television station in an effort to bolster the amount of public information available to the citizens of New Castle County.
“We have worked hard to make NCCTV an excellent source of information for County residents,” County Executive Gordon said. “Our viewership has increased since we began offering videos that document County Government in action. Boards and commissions perform a lot of work that is of vital interest to the community. This move is exciting.”
CAO Grimaldi credited Department of Land Use General Manager Eileen Fogarty for suggesting the expansion of NCCTV’s service.
“It was a brilliant suggestion,” he said. “The County Executive has wanted to expand NCCTV’s offering to a 24-hour news cycle, so to speak, for quite some time. This is a natural fit for the Executive’s priority on open government.”
Land Use GM Fogarty said that while there was some media coverage of these important boards, utilizing NCCTV would take things to a new level.
“Why not give the community direct access to these public meetings?” she said.
The Gordon administration will proceed with its plans to broadcast Planning Board and Board of Adjustment meetings beginning with the next meeting in January 2014. Planning Board Business meetings are generally held the third Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m. in the NCC Government Center, 87 Reads Way, New Castle, Del. The Board of Adjustment meets twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays at 6 p.m. in the Government Center.
NCCTV is available on Comcast Channel 22 and Verizon Channel 29.
