New Castle County hosts 68th Annual Platinum Picnic with A Salute to the USO
Hockessin, DE – On Wednesday, June 7, from 9 am to 1 pm, New Castle County hosts the 68th Annual Platinum Picnic, an event exclusively for residents 55 years of age and older. Established in 1949 to encourage fellowship between senior centers across New Castle County, Platinum Picnic takes place at the Hockessin PAL, 7259 Lancaster Pike, in Hockessin. The event features music, dancing, entertainment, food and a senior service expo. Admission is FREE, and reservations are not required. Attendees can purchase a hot buffet lunch on-site for $5.00.
This year, Platinum Picnic celebrates the theme A Salute to the USO with patriotic decorations, door prizes, a variety show, photo booth, trivia, dancing, patriotic costume contests and more.
“We owe a debt of gratitude to our seniors for their lifetime of contributions to New Castle County’s communities, economy and quality of life,” said New Castle County Executive Matthew Meyer. “Platinum Picnic is one small way we thank you by providing a fun-filled day of entertainment and fellowship and connecting them with services available to them.”
County Executive Meyer and other speakers are set to provide brief remarks to attendees at 11:00 am Over 500 seniors from more than 30 New Castle County senior centers and groups traditionally attend. An additional 30 community volunteers help with the event annually.
The 68th Annual Platinum Picnic is sponsored by the New Castle County Division of Community Resources through its mission to provide for the recreational, educational, social and cultural needs of the community.
