NEW CASTLE, Del. -- County Executive Tom Gordon has issued a local state of emergency and has directed the Department of Public Safety to take such steps that are necessary for the protection of life and property.
County Executive Gordon decided to close New Castle County Government offices at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, thereby allowing non-essential personnel to go home early.
Essential personnel remained on duty, including police, paramedics and Department of Special Services personnel.
NCC Government officials conducted a conference call at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to discuss the snowstorm that had arrived and the effect the predicted amount of snowfall would have on the County.
Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi announced the decision to close early today, as local schools had opted to do, after conferring with County Executive Gordon.
In addition, Governor Jack Markell declared a State of Emergency that included a statewide “Level 1 Driving Warning.”
Motorists were urged to drive only if absolutely necessary and very carefully in the snow.
