[ARCHIVED] County Offices Had Been Closed Because of Snowfall and Wind Chill

New Castle County Government officials decided to close offices Jan. 22, 2014 due to the significant snowfall on Tuesday, dangerous wind chill factors, and problems associated with snow drifts caused by strong winds.

County officials conducted a conference call at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, then took part in the State of Delaware's bridge call at 4:30 a.m. with all State agencies, counties, and local municipalities. All agencies reported primary roads in relatively decent shape but secondary and tertiary roads still covered in snow.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has forecast winds from the northwest with gust of 35 miles per hour and wind chills of minus 10 to minus 15 for much of the day Wednesday.

County Executive Tom Gordon and Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi were briefed by Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Jim McDonald before the Executive's decision to close was made shortly after 5 o'clock this morning.

Local and State residents are advised to stay off the roads as much as possible.
