New Castle County Government has resumed normal operations after two days of snow and dangeroulsy low wind chill factors.
Governor Markell and County Executive Gordon had lifted the State of Emergencies they imposed Tuesday in Delaware and New Castle County, respectively, on Wednesday. Snowfall in NCCo ended by 2 a.m. Wednesday with totals ranging from 6 to 12 inches on the ground.
Wednesday then featured wind chill factors between minus 10 and minus 15 degrees.
County workers returned to work today under a sunny sky but with warning from the NCC Department of Special Services to exercise extreme caution when parking and walking to and from their cars.
Crews from the NCC Department of Special Services worked hard throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday night to clear ice and snow. As a result of the sustained cold snap, Special Services anticipates being in a cycle of applying brine and salt to combat black ice and frozen, compacted snow in the mornings and as snow melts and refreezes on what are supposed to be sunny, chilly days.
The New Castle County Government Center is normally open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
