County partners with Beau Biden Foundation to bring Stewards of Children training to libraries

Register now to attend free sessions on August 26 in Hockessin and September 9 in New Castle

New Castle, DE – County Executive Matthew Meyer today announced that New Castle County is partnering with the Beau Biden Foundation to offer its flagship child abuse prevention training program in county libraries. Two training sessions will be offered free of charge on August 26 at the Hockessin Library and September 9 at the New Castle Library. Seating is limited. Members of the public can register online at

“Every adult plays an important role in recognizing and responding to the signs of child abuse,” said New Castle County Executive Matthew Meyer. “New Castle County is proud to honor Beau’s memory and support the Beau Biden Foundation’s educational mission and I strongly encourage adults of all ages to take advantage of this free training opportunity. By working together, we can ensure that more of our people possess the knowledge they need to be effective advocates for kids.”

In 2010, Attorney General Beau Biden set a goal of training five percent of Delaware’s population in child abuse prevention and using the Darkness to Light Foundation’s Stewards of Children program nearly half that goal was reached during his time in office. Since Beau’s death in 2015, the Beau Biden Foundation has continued this work to empower adults to react to and prevent child abuse throughout the First State and beyond.

New Castle County library Stewards of Children trainings will be offered at the following times and locations:

Saturday, August 26
12 noon – 2 pm
Hockessin Library
1023 Valley Road, Hockessin

Saturday, September 9
10:30 – 12:30 pm
New Castle Library
424 Delaware Street, New Castle

Stewards of Children uses powerful stories of real people to demonstrate how to protect children. The training features survivors who lived through child sexual abuse and their journey from victimization to healing. Training participants are exposed to experts who work with children and families and their lessons about confronting abuse.
