Saturday: Public invited to celebrate the new Route 9 Library and Innovation Center

Grand Opening Program starts at 8:45 a.m.
Activities and performances 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.


New Castle, DE – On Saturday, October 14, New Castle County will celebrate the opening of the Route 9 Library and Innovation Center with a day-long public celebration at the latest addition to the New Castle County library system. All are invited to attend a 8:45 a.m. grand opening program featuring celebratory opening parade, musical performances and remarks by New Castle County Executive Matthew Meyer, Delaware Governor John Carney, New Castle County Council members and community representatives. Members of the community are invited to stay or come back throughout the day to participate in activities and performances for the whole family.

Saturday's events will take place rain or shine.

The Route 9 Library and Innovation Center, which opened its doors to the public on September 12, is a transformational $31 million facility in the heart of the historic Route 9 Corridor. It has been designed to promote innovation and entrepreneurship by leveraging technology to create opportunities for patrons of all ages to learn new skills like video editing, animation, and programmable electronics, and robotics in a welcoming and accessible setting. In addition to its core focus on books and literacy, the library features many unique learning areas including a Maker Lab, STEM room, Sensory room, Bookatarium, Scriptorium, Black Box Theater and Eatery. The Route 9 Library and Innovation Center has been built with a significant investment of county and state funds and will operate with continued county and state support along with partnerships with local schools and non-profits to bring innovative programs and services into the community.
