NEW CASTLE, Del., Feb. 18, 2014 -- New Castle County Government opened on time on Tuesday after most parts of the County received about 1 inch or so of snow overnight.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has forecast a chance of showers before 11 a.m. Tuesday. It will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 42 degrees F. and a southwest wind around 14 mph.
Last Friday, Feb. 14, County Executive Tom Gordon also determined that all New Castle County offices would open on time.
However, libraries opened two hours late, which meant noon for most of them.
In addition, the County had a liberal leave policy for the first two hours Friday to allow employees extra time should they need it. County employees were urged to exercise caution and best judgment while driving to work, particularly on secondary and tertiary roads.
NCC operations had been closed on Thursday, Feb. 13 due to snow accumulations of 10 to 13 inches in northern Delaware. All non-essential personnel stayed home while essential personnel reported as regularly scheduled.
County Executive Gordon made the decision to close County offices shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13 after consulting with aides who participated in the County conference call and the State Bridge call to assess conditions.
The Executive along with CAO David Grimaldi and Deputy CAO Jim McDonald participated in another County conference call and the State bridge call to assess updated weather conditions early Friday morning.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. had forecast sunny skies, with a high near 37, and a west wind 9 to 13 mph for Friday.
