New Castle, DE – New Castle County’s expanded summer youth employment program gets underway with processing events for interested youth this Saturday, March 24 in New Castle and Wednesday, March 28 in Middletown. The New Castle County Summer Youth Employment Program is designed to engage low income County residents ages 14-20 in meaningful paid work-based learning that helps them launch their careers.

“The Summer Youth Employment Program connects our young people with opportunities to explore a career and gives them real-world experience to build a bright future,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “Hey teenagers, make something of your summer. Complete an application today and bring it to our summer job fair.”

The Summer Youth Employment Program exposes youth – many for the first time – to employment environments that enables them to explore a variety of occupations in and around New Castle County, while getting paid for their time. This year’s expanded program, which runs from June 18 through August 24, will be available to more than 175 participants. In 2017, the County’s Summer Youth Employment Program hired 146 youth who were assigned to 62 worksites across New Castle County, including in and around the City of Wilmington.

Summer Youth Employment Program information and application materials are available online at http://www.nccde.org/syep. All interested youth must bring completed application materials to one of the following two New Castle County summer job fairs of their choice:

  • Saturday, March 24, 9 am – 3 pm, at the Garfield Park Community Recreation Center/New Castle PAL, 26 Karyln Drive New Castle, DE 19720
  • Wednesday, March 28, 4 – 7 pm, at the Appoquinimink Community Recreation Center & Library, 651 North Broad Street Middletown, DE 19709

Applicants should be prepared to take part in a brief interview on-site during the summer job fair that they attend, and are encouraged to dress in business casual attire.

New Castle County leverages state and county funding to provide paid summer employment opportunities throughout county government and in local partnering non-profit service providers. Hiring preference is given to youth from low-income families.

Note: The New Castle County summer job fair originally scheduled for Wednesday, March 21 at the Appoquinimink Community Recreation Center & Library was rescheduled for Wednesday, March 28 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. due to inclement weather.
