Wilmington, DE – New Castle County is recognizing Earth Month by collaborating with local non-profits to offer a variety of opportunities for residents to get outdoors to and enjoy the scenic beauty of the natural environment while contributing to efforts to keep parks and watershed clean.
“Every resident can contribute to a cleaner environment,” County Executive Matt Meyer said. “We encourage you to join that effort by participating in one of the many park and watershed cleanup events in our area, including in your own neighborhood park, and invite you to come along for guided trail rides and walks through some of our 247 beautiful County Parks.”
New Castle County kicked off Earth Month this week with a tree planting with Mount Pleasant Elementary second graders at Rockwood Park and the launch of the annual Great Schools, Clean Streams campaign, which raises awareness of the dangers of pouring household grease and oils down the drain and into the wastewater treatment system. Residents sign an online pledge at greatschoolscleanstreams.org to properly dispose of cooking grease and assigns their pledge to the local school of their choice for a chance to win their school cash awards for classroom materials and school projects.
