County Executive selected to lead delegation of rising star American officials to China

New Castle, DE – The China-US Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) announced that they selected County Executive Matt Meyer to lead a delegation of rising star elected American officials to China. Meyer will spend two weeks in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in the bipartisan delegation. CUSEF, an independent, non-profit organization based in Hong Kong, sponsors exchange programs and other initiatives to promote dialogue, deepen connections and enhance strategic cooperation between the United State and China. No taxpayer funds will be spent on the trip.

“I look forward to sharing our successes with my Chinese counterparts and to learn how they address challenges in a rapidly growing and changing society,” said County Executive Matt Meyer.  “Our selection to lead this delegation is recognition of the excellent and creative service of our hard-working county employees.”

County Executive Meyer was nominated to participate in the delegation by the NewDEAL, a national network of state and local elected leaders he joined last year who work to expand opportunity for all Americans in the changing economy.

“Matt has proven to be a rising star who exemplifies the next generation of leaders that our country needs in a fast-changing world,” said Debbie Cox Bultan, Executive Director of NewDEAL. “I'm thrilled that he is among the NewDEAL Leaders able to join this bipartisan delegation on a trip that will enhance their perspective on the global economy and their understanding of a key world power. In an interconnected world, state and local officials are increasingly responsible for forging international relationships and NewDEAL is committed to helping Matt and all our members do so effectively."

Meetings and other events will begin in Beijing on Monday.

“Our Chinese hosts look forward to engaging with top elected officials from across America and learning about their successes, including New Castle County’s innovative approaches to fighting crime, turning vacant and blighted residential and commercial sites to better use and supporting entrepreneurship and job creation,” said Audie Wong, Executive Director of CUSEF and Former President of Amway China. “Just as important, they are also eager to show the visitors all about China, its charm, its culture, its challenges and achievements, its ten thousand faces, if only time could allow.”
