New Castle, DE – Calling all young artists and writers! This winter, the New Castle County Newark Free Library and Bear Library will produce the 2019 children’s literary and art magazine PAGES, featuring works created by local kids ages 4 – 12. Young artists and writers can participate in PAGES by submitting a poem, joke, comic, essay, short story, or hand-drawn art or collage on an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. Children can create their submissions at home or at the Newark and Bear libraries, where art and writing supplies are provided. The submission deadline is December 16.
“Albert Einstein said ‘Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions.’ We invite kids across New Castle County to use their imagination to produce their own masterpiece and then share it with us. We look forward to helping our young people explore what life has to offer by showcasing their works of art with residents of New Castle County and beyond!,” said County Executive Matt Meyer.

Submissions received by December 16 will be reviewed by library staff and considered for inclusion in PAGES; separate magazines will be produced by the Newark Free Library and the Bear Library. Artists and writers selected to appear will receive a free copy of PAGES to keep. Launch parties are planned for the Newark Free Library on Saturday, February 23, and for the Bear Library on Sunday, March 3.
Submissions are being accepted at the children’s desk at both libraries. A completed parental release form, available at the libraries, is also required.
The New Castle County libraries PAGES program is free and available to any child ages 4 through 12. For more information, contact Pat Birchenall or Susan Montney at the Newark Free Library at 731-7550, or Renate Cumming at the Bear Library at 838-3300.
