[ARCHIVED] County’s New Website to go Live on Wednesday

In keeping with his commitment to open government, New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon is pleased to announce the unveiling of the County’s new, state-of-the-art website on Wednesday morning.

Upon visiting www.nccde.org, users will find press releases, proclamations and tributes issued by the Executive, as well as a link to NCCTV, the County’s public access TV station. They will be able to find what they are looking for in three clicks or less, apply for County jobs, and sign up for news alerts and updates – on the topics they choose – that go right to their phone or email.

One of the most exciting aspects of the new website is the new, more interactive GIS (Geographic Information Systems) feature that allows people to view things that may be of interest to them, including pending developments, approved developments, Board of Adjustment variances that date back to the 1950s, zone maps, and educational and political districts. The County’s Information Systems unit worked with geographIT to implement this subcomponent.

“This new website is both stunning and practical,” County Executive Gordon said. “The website allows citizens to access the information and the data they need quickly.”

CAO David Grimaldi pointed out that the County website’s last overhaul occurred during County Executive Gordon’s second term in office, which ended at the close of 2004.

“This new website is part of the Executive’s commitment to transparency and open government,” CAO Grimaldi said. “Included in the new website is every contract awarded by the County, a feature that began with the old website.

“Stealing a page from Sacramento, California, a leader in open government, we have also contracted Junar, who has an API platform that empowers people to create apps that make all sorts of data readily available, CAO Grimaldi said.

County Executive Gordon and CAO Grimaldi thanked Executive Assistant Daniel Scherquist and Information System Coordinator Mark Schubert for working hard with the consultant, Civic Plus, to implement the overhaul as smoothly as possible.
