County Executive Voices Support for Clean Water for Delaware Act

New Castle, DE – County Executive Matt Meyer today voiced support for The Clean Water for Delaware Act (House Bill 200) which provides a funding source for much-needed projects that clean contaminated water in Delaware’s streams, rivers, bays and groundwater and reduce the increased threat of flooding through improved stormwater management and best practice flood control initiatives.

“This legislation will help fund projects to protect our homes and businesses from flooding, support our lakes and rivers for recreation and help ensure every Delaware resident has access to basic wastewater disposal and clean drinking water,” County Executive Matt Meyer wrote, in part. Read Meyer’s full letter below.

The Clean Water for Delaware Act is currently before the State House Natural Resources Committee.

FULL TEXT OF COUNTY EXECUTIVE’S LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR THE CLEAN WATER FOR DELAWARE ACT:

Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst

Legislative Hall, Dover, DE

Dear Majority Leader Longhurst,

I write in support of House Bill 200.

New Castle County plays an important role in improving our water quality through forward-thinking land use planning as well as our wastewater treatment and stormwater management programs. In the past, our county has relied on federal funding to help pay for critical investments in our water infrastructure. However, as federal spending on water infrastructure has decreased over the past decade, so too has New Castle County’s ability to make these critical investments.

House Bill 200 would provide an important source of state funding for water infrastructure projects at a time when so many of our waterways are impaired and in need of help. This legislation will help fund projects to protect our homes and businesses from flooding, support our lakes and rivers for recreation and help ensure every Delaware resident has access to basic wastewater disposal and clean drinking water.

Yours in service,

Matthew Meyer

New Castle County Executive
