New Castle, DE – New Castle County libraries are sponsoring children’s literary and art magazines this fall, for kids ages 4 – 11. New Castle County libraries invite young artists and writers to participate in PAGES by submitting a poem, joke, comic, essay, short story, or hand-drawn art or collage on an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. Children can create their own masterpiece at home or at the libraries, with art and writing supplies provided. The deadline for submissions is December 15. Theodor Seuss Geisel, or Dr. Seuss, as he is known worldwide is credited for saying “Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” and thanks to the New Castle County libraries, young people are encouraged to express their own special uniqueness through the pages of PAGES, said County Executive Meyer. “I encourage all of the young people of New Castle County to get creative, have some fun, and help make this year’s edition of PAGES the best one yet!”
Each library will create its own publication, to be unveiled in late winter 2020. Submissions will be reviewed and selected by library staff for inclusion in library publications, and those artists and writers included will receive a free copy of the PAGES magazine to keep. Launch parties are planned for the February and March at various libraries.
Submissions are being accepted through December 15 at the children’s desk at each library. A completed parental release form, available at the library, is required for each submission.
The program is free and open to all children ages 4 through 11. For more information, contact your local New Castle County library.
