New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon has issued a Proclamation commemorating the Constitutional right of Americans to vote in commemoration of National Voter Registration Day held Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.
“Local governments have long played a historic role in being true laboratories of democracy,” County Executive Gordon wrote in his Sept. 24 Proclamation. “They have the power to enact laws and procedures for local elections to ensure that every eligible American has the right to vote.
“[T]he right to vote is a fundamental right to be cherished, endorsed, protected and exercised; and I support the establishment of a voter registration drive in conjunction with nonpartisan efforts such as National Voter Registration Day.”
