Carousel Park & Equestrian Center’s Spring Country Festival drew about 6,000 people to the park on a sunny, Saturday afternoon to enjoy a visit with Peter Cottontail, a jellybean counting contest, hayrides, and a barn tour complete with baby ducks, chickens, goats, and a pregnant donkey.

New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon personally welcomed the crowd and recognized Councilwoman Janet Kilpatrick and Councilmen Tim Sheldon and Joe Reda, and Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi.

“I’d like to welcome you to your park, Carousel,” County Executive Gordon said. “This really is the most beautiful park in the state. And we have a lot for you to do. Here at Carousel Park we are very proud to introduce the new ‘Carousel Kids Corral’ barn babies exhibit for children of all ages. This exhibit is open seven days a week.”

In addition, Carousel Park features several turtles in Turtle Pond, and there is a Bark Park, which County Executive Gordon created in 1999. In addition, there are more than 200 acres of hiking trails.

Before introducing the Easter Bunny, County Executive Gordon urged the sizeable crowd to come back to Carousel regularly. Once he introduced Peter Cottontail, who came in a on a horsedrawn carriage, families lined up to get pictures with the Bunny.

Carousel is open seven days a week, from dusk to dawn.
