[ARCHIVED] Youth Planning Board Applications Now OPEN!

Apply for the Youth Planning Board today!

The Department of Land Use recently announced applications are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 Youth Planning Board (YPB) until July 5, 2022.  Now in its third year, the YPB is the first of its kind in the state and welcomes young New Castle County residents between the ages of 16-22 to learn about the dynamics of growth, land development, infrastructure, and community amenities as well as the tradeoffs and negotiations involved in real-world decision making.  Specific topics explored include: affordable housing, transportation, climate change, open space and much more!   The program begins in September 2022 for a duration of nine months.

During the program, YPB members will share their perspectives, develop general planning recommendations, and champion issues and engagement particularly as relates to other young people. Training will take place during monthly group meetings, individual practice/coaching sessions, and hands-on applications in professional planning activities.  Ultimately, the group will present their recommendations to the NCC2050 Comprehensive Planning Team as well as other decision-making bodies, such as the New Castle County Planning Board and/or County Council.

The Department of Land Use has led the development of the YPB with support from community partners including the University of Delaware, Network Delaware, and the Delaware Chapter of the American Planning Association.  Over 40 young people have participated in the program so far.
