Everyone knows your library card lets you borrow books, music, and videos, but it can do so much more. Your library card is your access to learning a language, developing a new skill, catching a concert, checking out a museum pass, renting tools, or borrowing a laptop or hotspot. In September, using your library card will also give you a chance to win a $25 gift card.
During the month of September, the New Castle County library system will join the American Library Association (ALA) to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.
“Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children,” said New Castle County Executive Meyer, “Offering a variety of programs to spark creativity and stimulate an interest in reading and learning. A library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, explore new passions and interests, and find their voice.”
Visit any New Castle County library and attend a library program, checkout an item, use a computer, or renew or sign-up for a library card and be entered to win a $25 gift card. Each branch will select a weekly raffle winner. The first raffle drawing will be on September 12, 2022.
The gift cards have been provided with the generous support of the Friends of the Library. “Library Card Sign-Up Month is an opportunity for the community to come back to the library and check out all the amazing programs and services our libraries offer for free,” said Geri Krolin-Taylor, president of the Friends of the Hockessin Library. Mr. Lee Jarmon, President of the Friends of the Route 9 Library and Innovation Center, agreed stating, “Libraries have something for everyone. Each library’s Friends group is excited to support this campaign.”
Library cards are free to all New Castle County residents. Signing up is easy, just visit your local library or go to https://lib.de.us/librarycard/.
