Pike Creek, DE – Today, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer announced the return of Sleep Under the Stars, which will take place October 15 at Carousel Park and Equestrian Center. This is the first time the popular family overnight camping event will return since 2019.
“There’s no better way to experience the beauty of one of our parks then by enjoying a sunset and a sunrise,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “This is a unique opportunity to enjoy one of the many beautiful County parks with an overnight experience.”
“We are so excited to be bringing back Sleep Under the Stars,” says Jane Rattenni, manager of the Division of Community Resources in the Department of Community Services. “We wanted to make sure we were able to bring this event back in the safest way possible. We also wanted to make sure we could bring it back with all the activities families remember.”
There will be some changes this year, the event will kick off a bit later with gates opening at 12 p.m. and activities beginning at 2 p.m. Pre-registration for the event is required for a fee of $20 per car.
The event still offers safe overnight family tent camping, hayrides around the park, games, scarecrow making, DJ Monster Mash dance party and more. Tent decorating and costumes are encouraged. The night is topped off with tent-to-tent trick-or-treating, a family movie under the stars, and family bonfires.
