New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon and Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi led the County's community meeting at Appoquinimink Library Wednesday night to discuss public safety, technology, land use, and emergency medical services.

County Executive Gordon welcomed the crowd of about 20 people and encouraged everyone to ask questions during the meeting.

CAO Grimaldi demonstrated the power of the County's new website, including advanced features on G.I.S. mapping and plentiful information on land use issues.

Land Use General Manager Eileen Fogarty gave an extensive presentation on initiatives she had undertaken to revamp the Department of Land Use for the betterment of New Castle County.

Land Use's Alan Desrosiers and Doug Sensabaugh also gave an overview of the Over 65 Exemptions available to seniors as a tax break.

New Castle County Police Cpl. Irvin Watson gave residents valuable tips on burglaries and property crimes. That included a discussion on the latest crime, so-called distraction burglaries, Watson said. This is when one person poses as a salesman at the front door while his accomplice breaks into the back door and robs an unsuspecting victim.

NCC Paramedic Cpl. Lorraine Williams gave residents an overview of how the Vial of Life program worked. The Vial of Life contains important, medical information about a person and can be stored in the wallet, purse, glove compartment, and your refrigerator door.

There is one more meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15 at the NCC Gilliam Building, 77 Reads Way, New Castle, DE. Everyone is welcome to attend.
