The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. recorded a high of 92 degrees at New Castle County Airport, with a heat index of 97.
Today’s advisory was scheduled to end around 7 p.m. Wednesday if showers and thunderstorms moved through the area and brought relief as predicted. That would cause cloudy conditions, with a low around 72 degrees.
Wednesday’s Heat Advisory from the National Weather Service served as a reminder to New Castle County residents of the precautions they should take during the summer, when heat indices could rise above 90 degrees.

Summer Cooling Assistance Program (SCAP): This program operates during the months of June-August and helps pay for electricity to cool homes with air conditioning during the hot, humid summer months. In addition to receiving a grant to offset the high costs of electricity to air condition a home, some populations may be eligible to receive a room sized air conditioning unit.
