New Castle County Police Sergeant Karen Messner, a Special Olympics Delaware coach, and her track squad have enjoyed some successes and personal victories this week at the USA Games in New Jersey.
Tasia Moore has won a silver medal in one of the sprinting events, Jakai Walker won the bronze medal in shot put, and Justin Hall took 4th place in the shot put event for Special Olympics Delaware at the USA Games.
Amy Gootzait followed up by winning the bronze medal in the 100 meter dash for Special Olympics Delaware at the USA Games in New Jersey.
Sgt. Messer, Co-coach Leanne Carson, and Special Olympics track runners Tasia Moore, Jakai Walker, Justin Hall, and Amy Gootzait departed for the site of the 2014 Special Olympics in Princeton, N.J. during a ceremony held Saturday at the University of Delaware.
The track squad began competing early at 8 a.m. Thursday. They would not be finished until the last event at 9:30 p.m., Sgt. Messner said. She said she would provide the County with updates as the day went on.
