New Castle County Police will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary this coming Sunday, February 17, 2013. This is the day 100 years ago that the first County Police officer started his patrols and our division’s rich heritage began. From this single officer, the Division of Police has grown to 370 diverse officers who unselfishly continue to serve our communities with the same bravery and honor as those officers who came before them.
To honor this historic day, a ceremony will be held this Sunday at 3:00 pm in the first floor conference room at the Paul J. Sweeney Public Safety Building, 3601 North DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE. The ceremony will begin with the first “100 year Roll Call” for the Evening Shift Patrol Squad.
County Executive Thomas P. Gordon and Acting Colonel Elmer M. Setting, and other dignitaries will present officers with the 100 year commemorative badge which will be worn for the remainder of 2013. The remaining badges will be issued to the rest of the officers throughout the week. Also in attendance will be members of County Council, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 and those from the New Castle County Police Alumni Association. We also encourage all active and retired Public Safety Personnel and their families to attend so that they all can join us as we officially begin our celebration of 100 years of service. The media is invited to attend.
On Saturday, May 4, 2013, the department will be hosting our Centennial Celebration at the New Castle County Police Department, Public Safety Building. This public event will begin with a ceremony starting at 11:00 a.m. This momentous occasion will honor the men and women that have served the residents of New Castle County for the past 100 years. The media and public are invited to attend this event.
