Retired New Castle County employee Sally Jensen was sworn in as a member of the Ethics Commission by County Executive Tom Gordon during a brief ceremony in the Executive Office Wednesday afternoon.

The New Castle County Ethics Commission was created in County Code in 1990 as the entity responsible for administering and enforcing the Code’s ethics provisions. The Commission’s duties include issuing advisory opinions, deciding on postemployment waivers, conducting preliminary inquiries, investigations and hearings concerning alleged Code violations, imposing sanctions if appropriate, and administering the financial interests disclosure process.

"Sally is one of the most ethical people I know," County Executive Gordon said. "She is also a great addition to the commission because of her extensive experience in different departments of the County."

Ms. Jensen retired in May after nearly 43 years with the County. She started as a secretary in the Department of Planning & Zoning in 1971 and worked her way up to executive secretary in 1996 in the Department of Administrative Services. She went on to become a confidential assistant for several years within Code Enforcement, Customer Relations & Assistance, and Community Governing. She spent the last year of her career as the acting customer information and assistance coordinator for the Office of Community Governing.

"I believe my experience as a former employee of New Castle County Government will be most helpful and beneficial to me in fulfilling my duties as a member of the Ethics Commission," Ms. Jensen said.

Ms. Jensen was appointed to the Ethics Commission by County Executive Gordon. New Castle County Council unanimously consented to her appointment on July 8. The County Executive appoints three members to the commission, and Council appoints four members. All serve on a voluntary basis.
