County Executive Tom Gordon recently swore in Johanna Bishop as a reappointed member of the Ethics Commission and Owen Mathews as a new member of the New Castle County Financial Advisory Council.
Both Ms. Bishop and Mr. Mathews were appointed to their respective positions by New Castle County Council after being nominated by Councilwoman Lisa Diller and Councilman Bob Weiner, respectively. They then underwent consent interviews with the County Executive and were sworn in during separate ceremonies in the Executive Office.
“We thank both Ms. Bishop and Mr. Matthews for their willingness to serve,” County Executive Gordon said. “We thank Council for appointing talented people to our boards and commissions, which serve important functions in County Government.”
Johanna Bishop is Director of Behavioral Science Programs at Wilmington University. She earned a Master of Education in Instruction and a Master in Human Resource Management from Wilmington University, and a BA in Arts from Central Michigan University. She is nearing completion on a doctorate in education from George Washington University.
Ms. Bishop, chair of the Ethics Commission, said it was an honor to be reappointed.
“Serving my local government as a public citizen is especially meaningful to me because I came to this country as an immigrant,” she said. “My father set the example serving on local city council in Grandville, Michigan, and he always encouraged us to speak up and make our voices heard.”
Mr. Mathews, of Wilmington, is Associate Vice President & Senior Treasury Management Officer for WSFS Bank. He received a BA in Economics from University of Connecticut. He and his wife have two children.
