The New Castle County Department of Community Services held a Community Reception in Sparrow Run to celebrate the art created by local youths for the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ “What Home Means to Me” competition.
County Executive Tom Gordon, County Councilman David Tackett, Community Services General Manager Sophia Hanson, and the Twin Poets (Nnamdi Chukwuocha and Al Mills) were among those who attended the celebration.
Earlier this summer, the NCC Department of Community Services partnered with the Sparrow Run Resource Center to host a pizza party and art event to encourage local youth to participate in the art competition. Approximately 20 children attended the event.
Community Services General Manager Sophia Hanson said the Art Show was a way of celebrating the creativity of local youth and a way to bring the community together.
The Twin Poets provided the entertainment at the event held Thursday evening.
