County Executive Tom Gordon celebrated a busy Labor Day that included serving as Grand Marshal in the 35th Annual AFL-CIO Labor Day Parade in Wilmington Monday.

The County Executive rode with County Recorder of Deeds Mike Kozikowski in the parade that featured local labor groups/unions and the esteemed marching bands of A.I. DuPont, Cab Calloway, Conrad, and McKean of Red Clay: Christiana, Glasgow, and Newark of Christina marching down King Street. Other dignitaries present included Governor Markell, US Senator Coons, State Sen. Marshall, Rep. Mike Barbieri, Rep. Dennis Williams, County Register of Wills Ciro Poppiti, Wilmington Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey-Walker and several others.

County Executive followed up the AFL-CIO Parade with lunch at the Longshoremen's Hall, a visit to the AFSCME picnic at Banning Park and serving lunch to senior citizens at the Annual Seniors Labor Day Cook-out held by Congo Funeral Home.

"Happy Labor Day weekend to all who continue to champion workers rights," County Executive Gordon said. "Thanks to the labor movement we have the 8-hour workday, weekends, workplace safety, minimum wage, child labor laws, social security, pensions and more.

"In short, we've all benefited from labor's contributions to working men and women."
