County Executive Tom Gordon and New Castle County Council President Christopher Bullock commended Council’s approval of the land purchase needed for the new library/innovation center planned for the Route 9 Corridor.
County Council approved the resolution authorizing the County Executive to purchase the land by an 11-0 vote,with two absent, at its meeting Tuesday night. Councilman Jea Street, President Bullock, Councilman Penrose Hollins and Councilman John Cartier were co-sponsors of the legislation.
“This is a significant step toward realizing the dream of creating an innovation center that will help under-served youths improve their learning through state-of-the-art technology and revitalize an important but economically depressed part of New Castle County,” County Executive Gordon said. “I thank Council for approving this resolution in its wisdom.”
“Providing essential services to New Castle County residents is a top priority of this Council and the vote reflected that,” President Bullock said. “This library will mean a lot to the New Castle and Wilmington areas and Council looks forward to working with the administration on the development of this great County asset.”
