[ARCHIVED] County Operating at Normal Hours as Officials Monitor Winter Weather

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. has adjusted forecasts for New Castle County with lesser snowfall accumulations from the earlier predictions, and the level of alert. However, late Monday evening and Tuesday travel will still be hazardous given the conditions of blowing/drifting snow.

New Castle County Government is operating at normal, business hours. Employees driving to work are urged to exercise caution when on the road.

Light rain is expected until 7 a.m., changing to a mix and then light snow during the day. Total daytime snow accumulation is less than 1 inch.

New Castle County will be under a Winter Weather Advisory from Noon today until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Later in the evening on Monday, after rush hour, is the expected formation of the Nor’easter that will impact NCC overnight into all day Tuesday.

Blowing and drifting snow conditions with total snowfall accumulations for NCC of 3-5 inches overnight Monday into Tuesday, and additional 2-4 inches on Tuesday. Winds of 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph are anticipated. Snowfall amounts just to our east and Northeast are expected to be 6-12 inches.

- DELDOT and Special Services are staffed presently with crews to address these issues. AMTRAK has prepared for impacts today and will adjust schedules as needed given conditions.

- NCC EOC will be staffed overnight Monday into Tuesday for any resource requests and to monitor conditions for power outages and transportation.

Further updates will be provided later today after State and Local Conference Calls.
