New Castle County Government has decided to operate at normal business hours today (Tuesday) after snowfall amounts fell well short of weather forecasts for the region.
The National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J. canceled its Winter Weather Advisory for New Castle County at 12:30 this Tuesday morning. At 1:30 a.m., the National Weather Service explained that the storm did not develop as quickly as originally thought, and a component held the moisture from reaching westward toward our area as originally forecasted.
The high impact snowstorm affecting southern New England and much of Long Island, N.Y. ended up about 90 miles farther east than was forecasted. This spared Delaware, far eastern Pennsylvania and much of New Jersey – except closer to the coast – of substantial snowfall. Totals have been adjusted down across our region.
There will be bands of snow affecting the Interstate 95 corridor but not nearly to the extent that was previously expected. Please still be careful when driving as snow has covered the pavement. Thank you.
