New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon recently consented to the reappointment of community volunteer Renee Du Jean to the Community Services Board.
Mrs. Du Jean’s reappointment keeps her on the Community Services Board until October 28, 2017. This board advises the general manager of the county Department of Community Services on issues related to this department, whose purview includes library operations, housing initiatives, and park events such as Sleep Under the Stars.
County Executive Gordon thanked Mrs. Du Jean for her willingness to continue serving the county and administered the oath of office to her in his office on April 7, 2015.
Her reappointment to the board was sponsored by New Castle County Council President Pro Tempore Penrose Hollins and Councilman John Cartier. Council approved the new term in mid-March.
Mrs. Du Jean was the director of the National Urban League, where she started her 27-year tenure as a research writer. She is also a founding board member of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League and a lifetime member of the National Council of Negro Women, among other things. She is an alumna of City College of New York and Manhattan Community College.
“We are pleased that Mrs. Du Jean is willing to continue giving her time to civic service,” County Executive Gordon said. “I thank Councilmen Hollins and Cartier and County Council for reappointing Mrs. Du Jean to the Community Services Board.”
