PIKE CREEK, Del. – New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon cordially invites county residents and visitors alike to attend the bark park grand reopening scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Carousel Park & Equestrian Center off Limestone Road north of Kirkwood Highway.
“There will be treats for your dog, barbecue and refreshments for you until 2 p.m., on-site adoptions from the Delaware Humane Association, a pet first aid and CPR demonstration, and a visit from the New Castle County Police K9 Unit,” County Executive Gordon said. “It will be a great day for dogs and their best friends.”
County Executive Gordon thanked the Department of Special Services, led by Acting General Manager Wayne Merritt, and the New Castle County Conservation District for working together to clean up the bark park at Carousel and give it a much-needed overhaul.
“Wayne and his staff, including Property Manager Paul Johnson, did an excellent job of working with the Conservation District to make this bark park an outstanding recreational area for pets and pet owners,” he said. “I also want to thank Governor Jack Markell for bestowing upon the county the Urban Conservation Award last spring in recognition of our efforts at Carousel. The bark park and the pond are cleaner and safer now.”
