NEW CASTLE, Del. – New Castle County Executive Thomas P. Gordon is pleased to announce that First State Animal Center and SPCA will continue to handle animal control for the County through the end of the 2015 calendar year, when the State of Delaware anticipates taking over.
The extension agreement, negotiated by CAO David Grimaldi, allows First State Animal Control to continue services at no extra cost to County taxpayers. “I’m thankful for First State Animal Control’s willingness to negotiate with us,” he said.
The agreement was an amendment to the previous contract between New Castle County and First State Animal Center and SPCA. It contains a contingency in which First State Animal Center would continue to provide animal control for New Castle County should the State be delayed in the anticipated transition.
“I want to thank Chief Administrative Officer David Grimaldi for working this deal at no extra cost to New Castle County, which sets us apart from other jurisdictions in Delaware,” County Executive Gordon added. A recent News Journal article noted that most jurisdictions in the State have already experienced an increase in the cost of animal control.
