New Castle County Executive Tom Gordon ordered County flags flown at half-staff Tuesday morning, starting with the solemn End of Watch ceremony held Wednesday morning in front of the Paul Sweeney Public Safety Building.
The private ceremony was held for the family of Lt. Szczerba on the fourth anniversary of his courageous death in the line of duty.
Among those attending the End of Watch were County Executive Gordon, Chief of Staff Jim McDonald, County Attorney Bernard Pepukayi, Public Safety Director Joe Bryant, Police Chief Colonel Elmer Setting, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 President Cpl. Michael Zielinski, Sheriff Trinidad Navarro (NCCPD ret.), several police officers from the County and other jurisdictions, the distinguished NCCPD Mounted Patrol, and members of the new Lt.
