WILMINGTON, Del. – County Executive Thomas P. Gordon invites New Castle County residents and visitors to attend the 3rd Annual Faerie Festival on Sunday, September 20, 2015, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Rockwood Park.
The Faerie Festival has craft activities, face painting, Enchanted Story Time and much more. New this year will be performances by the Wilmington Ballet Academy of the Dance and the Delaware Arts Conservatory, as well as Faerie Tales as told by the Wilmington Drama League. Also, new are Tinkertown and the Bubble Lab. In Tinkertown, faeries and gnomes will build a problem-solving contraption and will explore the science of the soap bubble in the Bubble Lab.
“At last year’s Faerie Festival, over 3,000 families enjoyed the faerie crafts, and entertainment for all ages including games, faerie wing and wand making, and visits with the Faerie Queen,” County Executive Gordon said. “In addition, there will be complimentary tours of the Rockwood Museum to give children the opportunity to learn about what it was like living in a mansion as a small child at the turn of the 20th Century.”
Visitors to the Faerie Festival can also participate in the Faerie House and Gnome Home Building Contest. Participants will construct their faerie house or gnome home using objects found in nature, such as twigs, pinecones, leaves, and other materials. The goal is simple, to have fun building the best home possible. Awards will be given for first, second, and third place.
Entry into the Faerie House and Gnome Home Building Contest is $10 per family and by registration only due to limited materials. Registration is available online, or families can register by calling (302) 761-4340.
Admission to the Faerie Festival is free as are all activities apart from merchants, food vendors, and the Faerie House and Gnome Home Building Contest. The rain date for this event is Sunday, September 27. For more information, visit nccde.org/specialevents.
