County to Stock Glasgow Park’s Pond With Fish

GLASGOW, Del. – County Executive Tom Gordon, County Council President Christopher Bullock, and County Councilman David Tackett are pleased to announce that the New Castle County Department of Special Services will stock the Glasgow Park pond with fish for the first time ever on Thursday, October 22.

“Glasgow Park along the Route 40 corridor is an important part of the county’s parks and recreation system, and implementing a catch and release fishing operation enhances the park’s already strong repertoire of fun activities for families and individuals,” County Executive Gordon said. “I have to thank Council President Bullock and Councilman Tackett for supporting this next, logical step for Glasgow Park.”

“I am very proud to partner with County Executive Gordon in projects that enhance Glasgow Park,” Councilman Tackett said. “Fishing will be another activity available at the park that will allow families to interact together in the great outdoors.”

The County plans to stock Glasgow Park’s pond with:
• 100 10-inch Large Mouth Bass
• 250 4- to 8-inch Bluegill
• 300 12- to 20-inch Channel Catfish

Members of the public with State of Delaware fishing licenses will be able to fish the pond, said Jonathan Husband, an engineer with Special Services. Fishermen are asked to honor the county’s catch and release policy.

The County Department of Community Services is working to plan a soft opening for fishing at Glasgow Park in mid-November, giving the fish time to acclimate to their new home. In addition, County Executive Gordon and Councilman Tackett plan to hold a family fishing day sometime in the spring.

The fish stock is scheduled for noon Thursday, October 22. The media are welcome to attend. Glasgow Park is off the junction of Del. Routes 40 and 896 in Glasgow. The address is 2275 Pulaski Highway, Newark, DE 19702.
