HOCKESSIN, Del. -- New Castle County Patrol Units arrested 26-year-old Delkwane Chambers for a slew of charges after he was discovered to be in possession of numerous stolen items when being questioned for hitchhiking.
On Sunday (10/25), New Castle County Patrol units were dispatched to the community of Wellington Hills for the report of a theft from a motor vehicle that had just occurred. The 32-year-old reporting person/victim advised that he went out to his car to retrieve some belongings. He noticed the interior light on in his company and personal vehicle. Upon further inspection of his vehicle, he noticed items missing and suspected that it recently occurred.
The reporting person then called 911 and began to look around for a suspect. While doing so he noticed several other vehicles that appeared to have been opened as their interior lights were on as well.
County Police patrol units were dispatched and flooded the area in search for a suspect. K9 Handler M/Cpl. C. Sarnecky noticed a subject on Lancaster Pike soliciting passersby for a ride. M/Cpl. Sarnecky stopped the subject, later identified as 26-year-old Delkwane Chambers from the unit block of West 5th Street in Wilmington, and questioned him about soliciting for a ride.
During the contact, M/Cpl. Sarnecky noticed that Delkwane has a significant amount of property on his person. Officers who responded to the scene were in communication with M/Cpl. Sarnecky and identified the property as being some recently taken from the aforementioned community. Delkwane was then taken into custody without incident.
The property in the possession of Delkwane Chambers was connected to four (4) separate victims within the community of Wellington Hills. It should be noted that all of the victim’s vehicles were unsecured. The New Castle County Police would like to remind all residents to “PARK SMART” and to please remember to lock your vehicles any time you leave them, especially overnight.
Delkwane Chambers was charged with three (3) counts of Burglary in the third degree, one (1) count of Possession of Burglary Tools, three (3) counts of misdemeanor theft, three (3) counts of attempted misdemeanor theft, and one (1) count of Pedestrian Soliciting Ride (hitchhiking). He was committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $17,025.00 secured bail.
