Who makes the final selection for an available position?
In most cases, the top five ranked candidates on an eligible list are invited to a selection interview. A diverse panel of subject matter experts, including the department’s hiring manager, conducts the interview and determines which candidate is the best fit for the position. Applicants who are not selected are notified by mail, but their names remain on the eligible list for possible future vacancies until the one-year expiration of the list.

What happens if I am selected?
Once a selection is made, the Office of Human Resources will contact you with a tentative employment offer. You will then be scheduled for a pre-employment physical examination (including drug and alcohol testing) and asked to provide information for a background check. Your starting date is coordinated to provide ample time for a two-week notice to any current employer.
