The Audacity of You to Exhale: Life Transformation Workshop

Chicago Style Steppin' Dancing at the Garfield Park Rec Center

Step into this style of Chicago’s African American dance, formerly referred to as BOP, with your instructor Belinda McGuire-Davis. Chicago-Style Steppin' Dancing is a smooth calm dance of striding, gliding, dipping, and dabbing to music by popular African American big bands. 2-hour classes, $12 drop-in fee, FREE to 55+ Lifestyle Members.

All Levels Yoga

This class can be for the newcomer and the seasoned yogi. Poses are adapted to suit the individual participant’s needs. We focus on moving the body in various planes of movement to promote healing and restoration. Each class will conclude with a relaxation/meditation portion which can be done seated or lying down. Wear comfortable clothing and a mat and water is suggested.

Parkinson’s ABC Group Training

A-Agility B-Balance C-coordination/cognitive. A Parkinson’s-specific collection of exercises that target common Parkinson’s constraints in agility, balance, coordination, and cognition. The class is fun yet challenging. This class is for people with PD who are ambulatory and do not require assistive devices. The Bachelor Collectors: The Arts of Rockwood

Join Rockwood’s Director, Ryan Grover, through a highlights tour of the museum’s fine and decorative art collections. Each generation that lived at Rockwood, from the 1850s through the 20th century, added important arts and antiques to the house spanning the 17th-20th centuries and originating from Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Two especially important figures in this collection include Joseph Shipley and his great-nephew Edward Bringhurst V – instead of marrying they both committed themselves to their aesthetic and cultural interests becoming early art collectors within the region. The tour will end in the conservatory, the best object in the collection, with complimentary drinks.

Happy-Hour Yoga

What could be better than a flow yoga practice followed by a glass of wine? Rockwood’s latest addition to its yoga offerings features a new instructor, Karen Feeney, and pairs your favorite pastimes into the beginning of a terrific weekend. Let go of the work-week stress with this double layer of mindfulness and relaxation. Please bring a mat and/or towel, water & blocks if you use them. Ages 21+.

Movers & Shakers, is a music & movement class that is fun, lively and educational too! It is an opportunity for children and their caregiver to be introduced to songs & lyrics, rhythms & rhymes, & other fun games & activities too. We will sing, dance, explore colorful, musical instruments of all kinds, reach for bubbles & scarves soaring through the air, and much more!! Class is designed for children ages 10mo - 5yrs of age and a caregiver Must register online in advance
